£700m loans turned away
The Co-operative Bank has said that since introducing
an ethical policy 15 years ago it has refused applications for
loans worth more than £700 million.
The bank claimed the policy, which aims to avoid exposure to
firms deemed to be involved in unethical and
environmentally-unfriendly criteria, was a key driver of its
strong growth.
The policy has seen the bank take a stance against issues such
as climate change.
